At MacSailing we want your learning experience to be relaxed,
easy and fun. Our instructors are all Canadian Yachting Association
(CYA) or equivalent certified. They are very knowledgeable and
bring many years of sailing experience to share with you.
The easiest way to learn is by doing, so our courses are designed
to maximize practical experience. Key points are covered in
classroom sessions, but 80% of your time will be spent on the
water.
Part of the learning experience is knowing how to rig and de-rig
the boats. All sailors will be expected to help with launching or
de-rigging and putting away boats.
MacSailing's
children's courses are eligible for the Canadian Government
Children's Fitness Tax Credit.
Weather
No attempt is made to sail in dangerous or miserable conditions,
however classes are not cancelled. We use the time to go over
theory and practice knots and rigging. We will sail, however, when
conditions permit instructive sailing, including rain and light
winds.
Clothing
Dress for the weather conditions. It is always cooler on the
water, so even in the summer a windbreaker might be needed. Bring a
bathing suit to wear under a wet suit, a towel, a change of
clothes, soft soled shoes that will get wet, hat and sunscreen.
Good sunglasses with straps are also important.
FAQs:
Q: Do I need to
know how to swim?
A: You will always be
wearing a lifejacket, however you should feel confortable in the
water.
Q: Is there parking
available?
A: There is
pay-parking available outside the Jericho Sailing Centre. Cost is
$2.00/three hours. Parking is free during the fall, winter and
early spring!
Q: How long before
class should I arrive?
A: Plan to arrive
twenty minutes prior to the start of your first class. The office
staff will help you get oriented, collect any outstanding balances,
and have you sign a waiver form.
Q: What is your
cancellation policy?
A: A full refund less
a $20.00 cancellation fee will apply to cancellations received 10
or more days prior to program starting date. If cancelled between 5
and 9 days prior to starting date, a 50% charge will apply. If
cancelled less than 5 days prior to program starting date, no
refund will be given.
Q: Do I need to
pre-book rentals?
A: We advise pre
booking since sometimes boats are being used for lessons. Also we
can ensure boats are rigged and ready to go when you arrive!
Q: Do I have to be
a member of Jericho Sailing Centre to take lessons or rent
boats?
A: No.
