COVID-19 UPDATE

May 19th, 2020

Dear MacSailing Community,

The path to reopening has become clearer. We are planning to run our first course on May 25th and have developed a renewed operations plan in order to offer some programming while limiting potential risks associated with COVID-19. Some details regarding our planning have been outlined below.

Our plans for the summer will evolve as the situation changes and as we receive information from public health authorities. Rest assured that we are working hard to follow all guidelines provided. At this time, we are working to maintain that same MacSailing experience while ensuring our collective health and safety is our top priority.

Our website has been updated with new 2020 schedule and availability. Online registration is now available. Anyone that has already signed up for 2020 will be contacted to confirm their attendance.

As we move forward with our re-opening, we wanted to tell you about the safety measures we are preparing to ensure everyone remains safe.

Following the WorkSafe BC Covid-19 Safety Plan, we have implemented 4 levels of protection.

1)   Maintaining space

By reducing our class offerings by over 50% and capping our individual classes at no more than 6 people, we significantly reduce the risk of transmission. Staff will be working in shifts to avoid contamination between classes. On top of this, we are moving outside. Every class we offer is majority on the water time, but the classroom will no longer be indoors. We will have whiteboards outside along with systems in place to ensure a physical distance of 6 feet is maintained at all times. Finally, we have been in close communication with Jericho Sailing Centre as they reorganize the compound. MacSailing will have its own dedicated entrance with clearly marked arrows to help direct you the appropriate areas. We will also have dedicated outdoor showers, change rooms and restrooms for MacSailing patrons.

2)   Barriers and protection

On top of the clearly marked pathways to help direct the flow of foot traffic, our check-in system will be touchless. Consent forms will be done entirely online, and the MacSailing desk will be outside with plexiglass surrounding it. Check-in and out will be staggered to avoid any overcrowding.

3)   Rules and protocol

All changes made will be clearly communicated to staff through training sessions and we will have clear signage to ensure all protocols are followed. Staff will rig all boats while wearing gloves and masks . We will be introducing disinfecting protocols to all frequently touched surfaces on boats. We will have a strict policy that if anyone is feeling sick for any reason, they will stay home. We will also have a touchless thermometer to perform temperature checks.

4)   Using masks

We have decided to use masks for all on land activities and any on the water task that places you in close contact with others. We will also use gloves for rigging boats. Further, in case of emergencies on the water (cap-size etc.), all staff will have face shields to protect both parties.

We appreciate your continued support and patience during this unprecedented time.

COVID-19 UPDATE

May 7th, 2020

Dear MacSailing Community,

Yesterday the government of British Columbia announced a plan to move towards reopening businesses. We will be opening in a limited capacity on May 25th.

MacSailing is proud to provide people with a great experience in a beautiful outdoors setting however we need to be very careful and conscious of all the new dangers that COVID-19 has provided. We have been working very hard to stay up to date with the latest safety measures and co-ordinating with several partners so that we can offer a safe and controlled experience to everyone that visits MacSailing.

Starting May 25th we will be operating a small Adult CANSail course. The course will be operated using new protocol to reduce time indoors and close contact with people. We will be taking extra steps to sanitise all equipment and have staff wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment.

If you have any questions please email us at [email protected]

COVID-19 UPDATE

April 11th, 2020

Dear MacSailing Community,

Our top priority at MacSailing has always been the health and safety of our guests and employees. For this reason, we will be delaying the opening of our season due to the COVID 19 pandemic. We are however, remaining hopeful that we will be able to have a sailing season in Vancouver in 2020. We will work with Jericho Sailing Centre Management and inform the community as soon as we feel it is safe and appropriate to resume operations.

Usually at this point in the year we are busy taking bookings for our popular adult and children’s courses and summer camps as they often fill up by May. Considering the current situation, we are asking people that are interested in signing up for programs beginning in June to use the contact form below. We will tentatively put people on class lists and will hold off on collecting payment until we have a clearer picture of when we will be able to continue operations.

For those that have already signed up and paid, we are hopeful that we will be able to operate your scheduled program or move you to a similar program later in the summer. If it turns out that we cannot operate a suitable program, we will provide a refund or a credit for the 2021 season depending on your preference.

We thank you for your support during these challenging times. We look forward to welcoming you to MacSailing again as soon as possible.
